Warnell Professor Gary Grossman wins national fisheries conservation award

University of Georgia Professor Gary Grossman has won the 2014 Carl R. Sullivan Fishery Conservation Award, awarded annually by the American Fisheries Society, the largest professional organization in the world. Full story

Warnell Professor Kim Coder wins international arboriculture award

Professor Kim Coder has been awarded an international arboriculture award for his service and commitment to community forestry. Coder was presented with the International Society of Arboriculture’s Award of Merit on Aug. 3. The Award of Merit is the highest global award the organization confers to arborists and urban foresters. Full story

Warnell professor Michael Conroy wins Fulbright Specialist grant

University of Georgia professor Michael Conroy has won a Fulbright Specialist grant to teach environmental science courses at the National University of Rio Cuarto in Argentina. The Fulbright Specialist Program links American scholars with institutions overseas for short-term projects that will aid the host organization with a need it has expressed a desire for help with, such as creating a new academic program. Conroy is a senior research scientist in UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources. His work at the Warnell School focuses on wildlife ecology and management, population estimation, modeling and decision theory. Full story

Dr. Dale Greene named interim associate dean of academic affairs

Dr. Dale Greene has been named the Warnell School’s interim associate dean for academic affairs. Greene has been teaching at Warnell since 1986, and choosing him as interim associate dean was a logical choice for Dean Mike Clutter. Full story

Warnell researchers win writing award from national forestry association

Three Warnell School researchers have won a national writing award for their analysis of how the timber harvesting industry in two states changed over the past 25 years. Full story

Great new video about White Ibis tracking in Florida

Dr. Sonia Hernandez's research team has been studying the effects of urbanization on the White Ibis, and one of her students is featured in a new video about the project. Full story

Irwin honored by UGA Costa Rica with 2014 Adelante Award

Kris M. Irwin made his first trip to the University of Georgia’s Costa Rica campus more than a decade ago. Since then, he has become one of the program’s most enthusiastic champions, conducting service learning projects, providing outreach support to the local Costa Rican community, training other faculty members and securing grant funding to support other programs on the international campus. UGA Costa Rica just thanked the senior public service associate for his service in a big way, honoring him with the 2014 UGA Costa Rica Adelante Award, which recognizes a faculty or staff member who has shown remarkable support to the program.
